My Father-in-law Steven went into the hospital yes

My Father-in-law Steven went into the hospital yesterday and we set up a GoFund page for him. He is a single senior who makes his living by playing music. We have no idea how long this medical journey will take and could use all the help financially. The link is in my stories and in my bio. We almost lost him. Another year of Monterey Jazz festival in the books. Wow, it was insane! So much great music going on. And definitely the most strenuous festival I’ve done in my 15yrs with the festival… 55 hours on my feet working with 26miles logged. Fortunately I still had time to catch up with friends and meet some new ones!

Also a huge thank you to my students that came down to help me out on the other stages… Benji, Joey, Rick and Ben you crushed it!

A really great master class last night with John ‘JR’ Robinson at @kuumbwajazz Such a treat to see and hear him work his magic on the kit. Also some stories from his legendary career and choice tips for making the groove dance. It was great to see a lot of my students in the audience, including these two up in comers… Isaac and Austin were soaking it in! Thanks to all that came out last night. Tonight’s opening night for the Jewel Theatre Company’s last show! “Always…Patsy Cline” will be running through May 26th. Julie James and the gang have been running Jewel Theatre for 20 years! They are a wonderful group of folks that put on amazing productions. This show has been a blast… a lot of interaction with the audience with some boot stomping songs. Ulysses will be sharing his insights on supporting large ensembles, as well as digging into brush technique and all things jazz drumming. I had a wonderful time visiting my sister Monica and her family (Jason, Oliver and Martine) in Lilienthal Germany, right near Bremen, in the north western side of Germany. Ate way too much meat and treats! Got my firework fix on New Year’s Eve 🎉 During my visit they were having crazy amounts of rain and nearly everything was flooded with evacuations along the river… Reminded me of what was happening here last year. The water levels are fortunately going down now, colder weather and snow on the forecast. Did some geocaching, projects around the house, bike rides and dog walks. Explored the old town of Bremen and headed up to Bremerhaven for a day trip. They’ve been there just over five years. Stoked to finally get over to visit. Next time I’m definitely going to make a point to work on some German phrases. More pictures on my personal Facebook page if you’re interested.
